Innova Gloss Type F FibaPrint
« on: October 09, 2006, 10:52:04 pm »

hi.

does anyone know where I can find Innova Gloss Type F FibaPrint in L.A.? I'm here for just another 10 days and would like to take some back to Hong Kong where it's not available.

and... does anyone know of an output centre in L.A. using the ipf5000 with the Innova Gloss Type F FibaPrint paper? I'd like to get one or two of my photos printed to see what they look like (even though there would be no corrections of any kind because my G3 clamshell iBook can't run Aperture or handle images as large as today's camera image files).

for reference... the ipf5000 is *not* available in Hong Kong!!! I have no idea why. Peter probably has similar thoughts.

regards,
Gregory

Pete,

thank you. you were spot on. they have it!

now I just have to decide whether to buy it or not. my Epson 1290 is not worthy of such a nice paper and the ipf5000 is not available in Hong Kong even though it *is* available in Singapore! what is Canon thinking??? I can only hope that there's an update due soon and that once it's released, they'll make it available in Hong Kong.

I have some nice photos. I'd really like to see them in glorious printed colour.

regards,
Gregory

Gregory, I have the Innova IFA09 which I shipped in from the UK (www.on-linepaper.co.uk delivered it to me).  Not sure what size you want to print, but you might find the surface texture at A3 / A4 sizes interferes with fine detail - I seem to recall you shoot birds.  The texture isn't so apparent whilst looking at an unprinted sheet, but it gets more noticeable once ink's applied.  I print a lot of events photos (stage shots mostly) where there is a lot of dark space, and for me this surface is too intrusive.

On the plus side it has fabulously deep blacks, better than Hahnemuhle FAP and Crane Silver Rag, and on a par with (if not better than) a gloss paper but without the mirror finish.  All excellent qualities and just what I want.  If that darn surface texture was eliminated then this would be my paper of choice - shame I can't get past that @#*@! surface.

Can you get a decent profile for the IFA09 and your 1290?  I tried a profile for the R1800 that the nice chaps at Innova pointed me to (not Booksmart), and it was truly foul.  I got far better results (though not neutral) using the canned Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper profile: you might try that as a start point if you buy the paper.

I've been making enquiries about printers. I'm holding off until I get to play with the new Z-series from HP, which I'm going to do at their HQ in Singapore in a few weeks' time.  I have a good business relationship with HP (not as a photographer), they're trying to get me a loaner.   It was easy to find a Singapore retailer who would ship an IPF5000  to HK, provided I paid the shipping, but this HP looks attractive to me.  So my powder's staying dry for now...!

Gregory: We (www.on-linepaper.co.uk) have a few customers in Hong Kong and are regularly shipping papers out to customers in far east no problem. With the Internet the world has become a village. Just let us know if we can help.

Gregory, I got my delivery from on-linepaper very quickly.  Ordering on-line was easy and the staff were helpful and responsive to my questions.  There was no VAT on my invoice, the papers arrived securely packed and pristine.  I'd recommend them.

GREGORY: If you go to the web site you can indicate no vat and then vat is not charged. We (www.on-linepaper.co.uk) do though need you to email us beforehand with precise details of what you are seeking so we can advise the carriage, but as many customers find, this is not usually excessive. Regards etc.
