As I often remind my grandchildren, I was born in the first half of the last century. So I can't help but think of modern cameras as optical-mechanical devices even though I know they're really computers with lenses.
Many years ago, I disassembled my father's pre-war Contax II rangerfinder in an attempt (partially successful) to get the focusing mechanism to move more freely. Also, to be honest, I wanted to know what the guts of a camera looked like.
Apparently, the urge to see what's inside persists
in a younger generation of photographers.
