Recently, the multi-terminal on my Sony A7ii broke after only moderate usage and no abuse that I am aware of. This port seems poorly designed for this purpose and it has put me off using Sony cameras for any shooting that requires using this port, which is a significant limitation for me. I have used the wired release regularly with this port, and I think it is this kind of usage which is particularly problematic. I much prefer Canon's solution for this kind of usage, and have never had a problem with Canon's three-pin port, even with very extensive usage.
