Search for self-adhesive vinyl on Amazon

You may experience outgassing of the plasticiser in the vinyl when it is new. Similar to what you get in a new car that coats the inside of the wind screen over time. Aging a bit in the sun may help before use.

How about a very light coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant or Armor All?

Nope, still doesn't help..  I haven't heard of any of those, either - at least here in the US.
OTOH - I'm quite the hermit, sooo...   ;D

Might you be referring to Con-Tact paper?
