Borrowdale Birches
«

Taken last week, before the snow, in Borrowdale ( Cumbria, England). Autumn colours are close to maximum. Same tree, slightly different viewpoint but very different treatment. Any comments.

Both treatment can fit an application.
First looks good on a screen with it's high contrast.
2nd would nicely fit a print with the more pastel tints.
Have a Nice Day.

Both images are very nice, Ken. You did a great job of isolating the object tree. The first image almost looks like it was taken with moonlight illuminating the tree.

The second image is quite close to sooc. For a 20 minute window in Spring and Late Autumn the sun clears a steep ridge to the right of the trees and illuminates them but leaves the hillside behind in deep shadow after approx 20 minutes the sun illuminates the hillside at the rear and the isolation is lost. My only trick is noticing it 9 months ago and coming back to see it again with the trees in clothed in Autumn leaves. Oops I have made a colour management mistake with the first image as it looks far too green on my phone. sRGB version here the other is ProRGB.

I like the first very much. I'm not mad on the composition of the second.

#1 for me, the tree takes centre stage, no distractions.

First for me too. I love how the tree stands out, with its glowing colors, on the very dark background. The second image is also very pleasing but the background is a bit mushy (at least with this reduced size photo).

As others have said, the first one is a beauty.
Aside: The thumbnail for the first image has a different colour than the expanded version. I looked at the profile and it is ProPhoto. Your second image is in sRGB. Just FYI.
