Because there might be other forum members / general audience with the same question. I have found many answers to my queries in this an other forums during the years by searching on old posts.

If you can add value or knowledge with your responses, just answer without looking for praise

It's not a question of 'looking for praise', there are a few regular posters here who never acknowledge or thank people for taking the effort to help them.
It's just simply rude.

It would still be courteous to thank someone for taking the effort to attempt to help. If the replier was wrong it would also help to correct them too.

I supposed if posters thanked other posters, would those other posters now be obligated to post "you are welcome"?    

I agree that it is nice if someone takes the time to thank someone.  But I don't get upset if someone doesn't.

One can always be optimistic and just assume that people are thankful despite not putting it in writing.

It's not a question of 'looking for praise', there are a few regular posters here who never acknowledge or thank people for taking the effort to help them.
It's just simply rude.

Maybe the "regular posters" are experienced enough to recognize that the "help" being offered is pure crap. Rather than insult the person making the "effort," by explaining what's wrong with the "help" it may be that the "helpee" would prefer to ignore the whole thing.

Actually, NOT saying "thank you" might be in certain situations the more appropriate forum etiquette. A single "thank you all," for instance, is fine. Individual  "thank you" after each post is annoying, to say the least. It appears as being polite, and yet often serves a different purpose. On forums like DP Review and Fred Miranda, threads get noticed and displayed on the front page based on the number of comments they receive. A sure-fire way to double your own thread count is to respond to every comment with a "thank you." Even on this forum, it bumps the thread up.

Completely agree, but it's a common courtesy to thank people for making the effort which way you want to.

On a different forum I visit there's the option to add a 'thanks' flag to the post. No comment needed and the forum keeps count of many times you're thanked or thank someone. That can really show how valuable a contributor is to a forum.

I realize that this site does not have the simple thanks or like tab to click. That often makes a simple acknowledgement easy and polite.
