Hasselblad H1 & 100/2.2 "Focus Dive Problem" error ???
« on: February 03, 2016, 09:23:05 pm »

I recently bought a pre-owned Hasselblad H1 and a Hasselblad 100/2.2 lens (from different sellers).
As soon as I mount the lens on the camera, I get "Focus Drive Problem" if camera is set to AF (single or continuous).
I can use the camera/lens in manual focus mode and the focus indicator in the view finder seems to be working accurately.

The question is, is this a problem with the lens or the camera?
Does anyone have any experience with this or what can be done to correct the problem?
Unfortunately I do not have another lens to test.

Thanks in advance.

I had a focus issue with the 100.  I don't remember if I saw that error on the camera, though.  When auto-focusing, the lens would get stuck.  Two months in the shop and $350 later, the lens was fine.  It was definitely a lens issue in my case.  Do you have access to another lens (like at a local camera store) to test if maybe the camera is the problem?

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I do not know of a shop locally that might carry Hasselblad lenses.
I did a google search earlier and found only one hit the exact error. That also stated that its a lens problem.
I guess I'll be sending it back for a refund.

By the way, where did you send your lens for repair?

Long shot but check that the gold contacts on the lens and body are clean/undamaged and that the lens is locked on properly.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I did check the gold contacts. Even though they look clean I still tried to wipe them clean.
I think the lens locks on properly, I've taken it on/off several times, so its unlikely that I managed to make a mistake repeatedly. Also the focus indicator seems to work when focussing manually and the shots seem to be spot on in-focus in Capture One.

I brought it to Samy's and they took care of sending it to Hasselblad.  It had to go to Sweden for the repair for some reason I cannot fathom.

This would happen if I swapped lenses with the camera still on sometimes.  Also had an issue where the autofocus would start stepping wildly.  Hasselblad replaced the contacts on the body and a bunch of other parts.  Camera is like brand new now!
