Low Water at Lake Tahoe
« on: December 06, 2015, 11:46:03 pm »

Despite the title, it was not my intention to document the low water at the lake. I was attracted by the contrast between the white catamaran and the bold red. Everything else just fell in place.

Love the stark contrast in colors. Lots o' blue gave me a moment's pause but looking a bit more I decided I liked it...

Your attraction was well founded. I like the colours but possibly it might be suited to a contrasty B&W? As it is ....well done!

This is one of the best photo i have seen.

Thanks for the praise.

Maybe you feel that way because you're a graphic designer - like me. We are trained to judge pictures by the message they send or the concept they convey, rather than by the actual subject and how well it is rendered.

A very interesting statement!

Some photographers are taught the same thing.

"The content of your image can be your worst enemy…

That is so true. I often give myself assignments for an image that conveys a certain concept or emotion and found that it is absolutely imperative to leave out easy to recognize icons like Half Dome, Golden Gate Bridge, Niagara Falls, etc., because they overpower and block the intended message. Even everyday items in an image can have that undesired effect, depending on the composition.
