When I first saw the canyon shot it just screamed 'fake'. The sky does not go with the canyon and to me that is a fail. If he wanted a good sky he should have found one instead of presenting a goofy one. I don't mind shooting day for evening. Late day shots of the canyon usually have too many deep shadows with only the higher parts illuminated. It is a mile deep after all so it is better to get your shot early but then there is all that haze so warmth and sat are needed to counter that. Most landscape shots are manipulated to some degree even if to make them look 'normal' but there is some expectation that landscape images represent nature to some degree and if the image screams 'fake' it is not a success as a photograph of nature even though the 'look' may sell well. To me Alain is an impressionist and we know those sell really well.
