6.2 on Windows, problem when restoring old version.
« on: October 05, 2015, 01:36:04 pm »

I just let LR 6 update itself to 6.2 (perpetual licence).
The update went OK, but the new import dialogue is so horrible I decided to revert to 6.0. Using system restore seemed to work OK, but the restored program wouldn't open any catalogues, even old back ups.
So I had to reinstall the whole program from a saved installation file.

Lessons reinforced;
1. Make sure you back up your catalogue before attempting any upgrade/update.
2. Keep copies of previous good versions installation files.
3. Don't fall for the 'it's new it must be better' patter.

I fully agree with you !

The import dialog was in my opinion the least important thing to change, and the result is really horrible. But, I think the way Adobe usually acts there is no chance that they will return to the old one, so I go with the new one and try to get used to it.

Oh Lordy!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But as my wife's grandmother used to say: "you might as well save your breath to cool your porridge".

Having checked with a few trusted resources today RE: Lightroom 6.2, I would strongly suggest NOT updating to 6.2.
There appears to be a lot of issues with this update, possibly due to a premature release time.
Unless you need raw file support for the Sony A7S II or some such reason just hold off and wait.
It is likely that 6.3 will iron out all the wrinkles.

I may also start a new thread with this as the prime subject.
