Canon EOS 5D Mark III + 24-105mm f/4L

The link above is to one of my first shots with an EOS 5D Mark III and 24-105mm f/4L. The camera was tripod mounted and the lighting came from a pair of 580 EX II Speedlites (one as master, the other as remote mounted on a VAL) supplementing the ambient sunlight in a lush greenhouse.

Exposure ISO 125, ƒ/8 @ 1/125th. Lens at 105mm
Processing: As Lightroom 4 does not yet support 5D Mark III raw files, this is from an in camera produced JPEG.  Lr's capture sharpening and noise reduction features were turned off

As this was not an official test shoot (that will follow) and more of a blind first date, the Basic Lr4 Development settings were a little tweaked -specifically Highlights set to +75, and Shadows to +49. Clarity set at +27.

You might want to check out DNG Converter 6.7 RC1. I think that will convert the 5D MIII files (even though LR4 can't).

I found that the best raw developer for Canon is DPP

Has Canon released a new version of DPP that handles 5d mkIII cr2's ?

ACR 6.7RC did a pretty good job with the raws I checked

DPP is not the best solution for me for a number of reasons but thank you for the suggestion.

I've shootign more and the detail at high ISO's is impressive, maybe in the D3s class.  Before you knock the ultra high ISO's a little perspective. This weekend I was looking  at a National Geographic from 1971.

I'm not sure how fast Ektachrome emulsions were back then, maybe up to ASA 400 but more likely ASA 100  (And I know that these were Ektachromes and not Kodachromes as they were labeled "Ektachromes ©National Geographic", while the Kodachromes were labeled "Kodachrome ©National Geographic") but ISO 12,800 from the 5D Amrk III are crisper and less grainy/noisy especially after a mderate amount of NR was applied along with narrow edge sharpening  in Lightroom 4.

In 1971 High Speed Ektachrome was ASA 160.  Kodak offered push processing (Ektachrome Speed Processing, ESP) but I don't recall what the recommended ASA for this service was.

Thanks Doug! That was the e-3 process wasn't it? A little before my time. I didnt try processing my own slide film till '74 / '75 with a little home kit where you had to flash the film with light during the development process.
