HD3 39 vs 50
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:34:31 am »

Am considering the purchase of one of these cameras. I just made a 42x56 inch print from the 39, and it looks fantastic. Sharp from corner to corner, a bit noisy in the shadows, but only if you get right up close to the print. The dealer also has a 50 available for a few grand more. Is there any advantage to the 50? The sensor sizes are the same.

A firmware update that was released today gives the H3DII/H4D 50MP cameras a maximum exposure time that is twice as long (128 sec. vs 64 sec.). The 50MP has a faster capture rate (1.1 seconds vs 1.4 seconds per capture).

The 39MP was available as an H3D or H3DII model. The 50MP was available as an H3DII and currently as an H4D model. The H3DII-50 can be upgraded to an H4D-50 for $3,000 as just the body is being exchanged.
