Nikon D7000 vs. Nikon D400

Some await the imaginary Nikon D400 as a replacement for the D300s. Others buy their DX chip in the form of a D7000. Is there any reason to await a D400 with the arrival of the D7000? If so, what would the D400 have that the D7000 doesn't?

Anyone who is waiting for the D400 had better be prepared for a long wait. The disruption to Nikon's Japanese factories is pretty severe, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the introduction of new models put off indefinitely. OTOH, the D7000 isn't produced in Japan, and is readily available. Unless the D7000 doesn't do something you really need, waiting for the D400 isn't likely to be very productive.

The Dx00 bodies historically have a stronger, more professional build, high-end AF, slightly better frame rate.  One might expect a new AF system to be introduced with the D4 and used in the D400 if history is any guide.  We have no idea what sensor is going to be used in it or how many photosites it will have.
