I got mine on Saturday (day of release in the UK). This is my first dslr (I use MF and LF cameras) so I don’t know how it stacks up against other/previous cameras. I haven’t yet spent much time with the files either.

I used it at a friends wedding yesterday mostly outside with 85mm f/1.4 (I wouldn’t use a new camera on paid work!) and was very impressed, wedding photographers are going to love this camera! The auto ISO is a brilliant feature; I was shooting with aperture priority almost all the time and never once worried about changing the iso when moving from inside to outside or worrying the shutter speed would get too low to handhold when shooting in low light inside.

The high iso performance and f/1.4 meant I didn’t ever need flash and opened up all kinds of natural light opportunities not possible previously. I also used my 50mm f/1.8 and 105mm f/2.5 AIS lenses on it which worked perfectly. The camera handles well and feels very solid and well built. Weight is reasonably high, I think some female wedding photogs might struggle using it all day with a zoom.

Appears to bea dream camera for wedding photographers!

Purchased mine on Saturday in Norwich, UK.  As I think I posted elswhere, its the most satisfying dslr I have used to date.  Those mere 12mp generate such high quality data you can do almost anything with them, which is very liberating.  Use Auto ISO with confidence.  Nearly impeccable up to 1600ISO and still good above that (not just low noise, but good colour too); when coupled with fast lenses, it opens up new horizons.

I still want a 20mp+ Nikon, but I doubt I'd want to trade down to inferior per pixel quality to get more resolution.

All somewhat surpising because I am more of a high resolution guy usually.

Also, great rear screen, fast, I could go on, but instead I suggest you simply buy one, because you are unlikey to be disappointed.

I am mainly interested in the D700 for the LCD,  reasonably light weight, AUTO ISO.

But, the D3 seems not to have as good D.R. as the 1Ds3 (which I have now,) so I am wondering about the D.R on the D700?!?

D700 is just a baby-D3. It has the same sensor, so the quality is just the same. We did a direct D3 to D700 comparison and the results were just the same.
