I'm working on prepress for a catalog and have discovered that CS4 is somehow corrupting images that are resized. Here's the scenario:
I convert an image from RAW in Lightroom, then further tweak, retouch in PS. The last three operations I perform are, convert 16-bit to 8-bit, convert RGB to CMYK, and finally, sharpen the image. I then save the image as an uncompressed TIFF in a folder, marked "CMYK". I then, undo the sharpening, and resize the image to the actual output size. (The original might be roughly 9x12, the reduced image might be 4x6, as an example.) I then resharpen for the new size and "Save As" in another folder, "CMYK resized".
For some reason, sporadically, Photoshop corrupts the new, resized image file, which can then neither be re-opened, nor placed in InDesign, on either a PC (me) or a Mac (the designer). Fortunately, I have the original full-sized image to work with.
I've had this same basic workflow for years, used in CS2, CS3, and now CS4, and have never encountered the problem until now. I only recently upgraded to CS4. I may have to go back to CS3 to finish the project. (Interestingly, the designer has had so much trouble with InDesign CS4, she's gone back to using CS3, especially on large projects.)
Has anyone run into this? I'm trying to figure out if I really want to fork over $$$ to Adobe for Tech Support on a possible bug.
Thanks, Nemo
