Thanks! How different the technology (photographic) in the film to the one that was the norm in the Scottish Rolls-Royce aero engine photo unit where I had my first few years of pro photography!
The equipment consisted of MPP 4x5 cameras and a Sinar Norma. I don’t remember the Sinar ever leaving the indoor studio. Lighting was either done with a hand-held lamp on a long cable with which the jet engines were painted with light, or with several flash bulbs… most of this work on location, in the actual factories. Sounds kinda quaint, but the results were impeccable. They had to be. Remember this: you didn’t know if you had the shot until you’d pulled the films or plates out of the fixer. Actually, the hand-lamp exposures were around a minute per side of the engine. No shutter bounce in those circumstances, and if anything reciprocity failure was your friend. As, of course, were the guys printing the negatives.
