I just began using an ALPA WA setup with a 58mm Super Angulon XL. I'm using a 6x9 film back. The camera does not use any shift, and I'm only using the central area of the image. I'm using the camera both handheld and on a tripod, sometimes with the optional ground glass.
The front element of the lens is very close to the rim and I am concerned about screw-in filters hitting the lens. The lens has a 67mm front thread. From what I can tell the Heliopan Slim filters I have barely work, but older B+W F Pro filter do not as the filter glass is set back further in the filter mount than the Heliopan. I have not tried the current B+W Master series yet.
I am considering if I should go to using a 67 to 77mm step up ring, along with 77mm filters to avoid any damage to the lens. If I can simply use 67mm filters of a certain type that would be optimum, as I also have a 80mm Super Symmar XL that takes 67mm filters. But I don't want to risk damage.
Looking for people's experiences using the 58 XL with filters. I haven't been able to find any info from Schneider, B+W, or Heliopan in any of the brochures I've searched for online.
For filters I am using UV, KR series, yellow contrast, and ND. I'm shooting black and white, color negative, and color transparency. Heliopan is under new ownership. Their previously made filters are difficult to find, B+W is making a limited number of types of filter as people move away from film to digital.
