get rid of -edit when using Legacy Save As?
« on: July 13, 2024, 10:09:42 pm »

I use Legacy Save As in Photoshop. Anybody know how to get rid of it adding the appendage -edit after the file name? Thanks.

Photoshop 25.9, Mac OS 14.5 (Sonoma)

That's a Lightroom thing, not PS.

ie if I open a file from LRC into PS and Save As (also using Legacy) I get the "-edit" appended (and have to delete it if I don't want it).  If I open a raw file in PS and go through ACR, then do a Save As I don't get -edit.  Also, if I open a jpg and bypass ACR I don't get -edit when I Save As.

No way to configure either to eliminate the word though (that I can see)

As there is no option in PS to do so, you can, of course, alter the extension's case. At one time, there was a 'Never' option, but it's gone.

Actually, I discovered (on the Lightroom Queen Forum) there is a way to remove the -edit. This appendage is driven by choices in Lightroom Preferences/External editing. At the bottom is a choice "Edit Externally File Naming/Template" and choose "Filename", and you get only the filename.

But wasn’t the question "Legacy Save As in Photoshop”?

Ahhh .. thanks!  If I'd seen that before I had thought it was for the additional editor (Topaz in my case).

OP here. I use Lightroom to organize my photos and as a photo browser, not for editing. So to edit a photo I open Lightroom, pick the photo, and click Photo/Edit in Photoshop 2024 to open the photo in PS. So that link between Photoshop and LR causes the -edit appendage when using "Save As" in PS. I didn't mention LR in my original question because I had no idea it causes the -edit appendage to appear in PS.
