I have been printing with the epson 8550 for about a year- using oem dye inks.
It is actually pretty darn good on glossy and even semi gloss papers.
But, I print 1000 or more matte note cards each year. I killed a canon pro-10 printing these over the years, filling it with precision color aftermarket ink. The maintancence tank finally filled and the printer errored out.
Many of my images have a lot of black- and the 8550 dye inks look pretty bad on the matte card stock. Usually red river polar matte.
I need a small inexpensive pigment printer.
Several companies are making a pigment ink set for the 8550. If good, it would be perfect for my needs.
Does anyone have any experience with the pigment inksets in this printer?
