Raw image unwanted change in Lightroom

Just moved from CS6 to the latest PS/Lightroom (LR) and am learning LR as I have never used it before.

If I open a folder of raw images using LR and view them in the Library, they look as expected (I shoot all images on a Nikon with as little changes as possible, including no in-camera sharpening or any other parameters so they look quite flat).

However if I change to Develop, every image I click on immediately changes tone/color, without me actually making any changes. In any other program, including Bridge, Camera Raw and CS6, the images do not exhibit this change. If I change back to Library, the image(s) revert to a flat appearance.

Did a bit of net surfing and was advised to do a preset that changes one of the parameters from Adobe to Camera, which seemed to solve the issue. However, I can not find a way to have all images automatically use this preset upon import into LR, without selecting the group of images and applying this preset, which requires me to remember to do this every time.

Can any LR knowledgeable person advise if this is possible, or am I committed to putzing around with this preset every time I access a folder of images?

As I am not yet close to being familiar with LR, my descriptive words/phrases may not be exact, so apologize in advance for that.

When you click on "Import" in Lightroom Classic you should see a dropdown menu "Apply During Import" where you can pick a preset that you want applied.  That selection should be 'sticky' when you return to import again (or you can change it).

Lightroon Classic > Preferences > General

The settings you want are there - you have the option to set globally or for individual cameras.

First, the preview architecture in Develop is unique to all other modules and the most accurate preview of the data. You should always view previews there and elsewhere at 1:1 or greater and when comparing, use the same zoom for each. 
It is normal to see slight differences at 1:1 but if really excessive, the first thing to try is to disable GPU in preferences; better? If not, you might have a corrupted display profile. Recalibrate the display or whatever you usually do to create a display profile. When given the option to build this profile, pick Version 2 (not V4) and Matrix not LUT. As to viewing Develop module and Library and outside of LR, it helps to soft proof in Develop using the same profile used in Library (Adobe RGB (1998)) OR the profile selected in Export for the edited image.

Coincidently, I have just built the new computer that I am now using as well as just moved up to Win11, and because my older puck is not supported any longer, I am also in the process of looking for a new monitor calibration system. Although I am not sure this has anything to do with the issue....but I could be wrong cause there is a lot of this stuff that I know little about.

Having said that, the image(s) that I have looked at in LR/ACR all have an obvious visual change to them when I switch between Library/Bridge and Develop/ACR (before, the images are flatter, after, they jump in contrast). If I change the Adobe Color to Camera Color (I think that is what they are called, not currently at that computer), the images don't show that change. And when I view them in another set of applications (NXStudio and PWP), I see no such difference either.

I shall try out your suggestions as well, after I take a run at the other suggestions.
