Hi all, I'm doing profiling tests to assess whether I have a healthy working spectro in a rescued Z3200ps (it coughed some intermittent errors earlier...).
For now I'm focussing only on the default profiling option thru the HP Color Centre (Windows) that uses the "built-in" 464-patch profiling target that you've all seen (example photo attached). (More advanced profiling tests using custom/larger profile targets will come laterrr...)
HP docs specify the ink/paper handling settings of each built-in paper presets (screenshots attached). I've highlighted the exact paper I'm using (HP Premium Matte Photo paper - CG459B) as well as it's "generic equivalent". All the settings are identical.
Surprise, the profile targets printed using those 2 paper presets are different! One has much darker shadow colours. And it's repeatable. And in this case the "generic" one has better results!
How is this possible when the HP doc says they use the same ink limit, passes, etc? Is the HP doc incorrect / incomplete?
I'm assuming that HP Colour Centre isn't somehow composing different colour targets (using different colours) depending on which paper preset is selected... If correct, then it seems to suggest that the printer is inking the paper differently between these 2 paper presets, despite what the HP doc indicates.
After all these years it seems what HP paper presets actually do under the hood is still really opaque (to me).
