Maybe someone with some experience can weight in here. I recently had a couple of test prints made by a midwest outlet for large format photo printers as I have come down to a decision for either the Canon 4100 or HP Z9+. Unfortunately, the Z9+ in their office was not equipped with the chroma enhancement accessory, and the test print suffered from some severe bronzing. In order to make a fair comparison I purchased some satin art print varnish and coated both prints. The bronzing disappeared in the HP print and the gloss differential in the highlights in the Canon print completely disappeared, as well. Both look very nice now. The one difference I find now is that the satin varnish on the HP print brings out the warmer tones of the HP Vivera inket, whereas the Canon seems to go cooler in appearance.
So here's the question, is the HP Vivera inkset in fact warmer than the Canon Lucia Pro-11 inkset? Or am I seeing things? The difference appears to be about 3-5 CCs. Also, both prints look much better with the satin varnish than the unvarnished versions. How many of you varnish your prints? Applying a UV varnish may or may not extend print permanence?
