Canon pro-4100. Can I install partially filled cartridges?
« on: December 28, 2023, 07:01:10 pm »

Fairly new to me canon 4100.
Local printer (friend) is changing inksets and gave me a full set of partially filled 700cc cartridges, pfi 1700.
These are about 1/2 full or so- lots of ink.
I am not sure how this printer monitors ink.   Can I safely install a pfi 1700 cartridge that contains let us say 300cc of ink instead of 700cc, and still use ink monitoring, or do I need to monitor useage and check the cartridge weight manually so I don't run it dry?
Just trying to not do anything dumber than usual
thanks

The apporx. amount of ink is saved in cartridge chip, and PRO-4100 has large ink subtanks, so it basically prints even after it dries out cartridge completly. It only stops printing when ink in subtanks goes below certain level.

Now I'm curious... what inkset is your friend changing to and why?

Yes my question as well. Why would he change out carts with possibly 3000ml of unused ink remaining? This stuff has an almost unlimited lifespan. I did say almost!

Thanks, wanted to confirm it monitors at the subtank level, and not the cartridge.
I'll ask about the ink--- not sure why he tries a lot of stuff he tries.
