Hi,
every time I print black and white photography, I stumble a bit at choosing color management.
I have Canon pro 4000, and i1Studio from Xrite. I make custom color profiles on all media that I use. Profile my screens at 2 months invervals.
Color printing - on point, I got to the point when I always get output the way I wanted it.
But B/W... I like to use Canon Professional Print and Layout, as plugin to Photoshop.
What's "best", "professional" way to handle color management?
1) When I use custom profile for paper, that I made using standard calibration, blacks are a bit off. I'm very nitpicking, so its a minor difference, but I see it and I dont accept that.
2) When I use custom profile for paper, that I made using B/W calibration from i1Studio, it gets better, but not for all photographies.
3) When I select "B/W" print in color management, what I see on screen is extremely close to output. Like a very very close, more than option 1, a tad better than option 2.
How is that possible?
By selecting option "B/W" in color management, paper icc greys out. So I assume at that point, printer doesnt account for individual papers characteristics.
How does printer know how blacks and greys will translate to paper?
A lot of customers send me their "black and white" photographies, but they are not really greyscale, but RGB, and there is a lot of magentas and yellows - does this affect options 1 and 2 individually?
Whats the use of those custom .icc that are made for BW (test patches are different, so it does look at different stuff).
I would love some of your thoughts on the matter.
