Frightening Sam Harris podcast about child abuse
« on: September 19, 2020, 12:12:58 pm »

This is a recent 2 hour+ podcast interview from Sam Harris's Making Sense series, https://samharris.org/podcasts/213-worst-epidemic/.

This is the intro blurb from that page: "In this episode the podcast, Sam Harris speaks with Gabriel Dance about the global epidemic of child sexual abuse. They discuss how misleading the concept of “child pornography” is, the failure of governments and tech companies to grapple with the problem, the tradeoff between online privacy and protecting children, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, photo DNA, the roles played by specific tech companies, the ethics of encryption, “sextortion,” the culture of pedophiles, and other topics."

The topic has an obvious connection with photo and video. It is not pleasant listening, so be warned.

Child maltreatment is the mistreatment and neglect of children under 18. It includes all types of physical and/or emotional maltreatment, sexual abuse, neglect, negligence, and commercial or other exploitation that result in actual or potential harm to a child's health. Intimate partner violence is also sometimes considered a form of child abuse. To help such children in any way, many institutions have opened to provide some kind of support. One such place I know is the Foster Plus agency, which I found thanks to https://fosterplus.org.
