Rebuild Search Table?

Is it possible you guys need to rebuild your search tables?  I'm not getting any results for some search terms such as 'memory', and getting quite a few duplicates for others such as 'speed'.  Perhaps after the recent problems it needs to be redone?

If I search for "memory" on all forums, I get 18 result pages! "Speed" gives me 19 pages. I've not checked for duplicates, though.

I'm getting many results for the searches mentioned.  Are you sure you selected to search the whole site?  By default it tries to search only the area you are in when you click search (unless you change it).

Only one result, in this thread.  Google confirms this too ... have you seen a post that shows different?   There is not option to rebuild searches in this forum software . . .

Ahh I think I see what you're after.  It seems that the search searches an exact term and not multiple terms .. not sure if there's anything that can be done about that or not.  I tried "memory or speed" and got a ton of results so it might be some way of trying to be "smart" about the terms you are searching for

Reading through the Invision forums, I see this is a common problem/complaint, as this software search routine sucks compared to others.  I don't know if it's option you don't have on, or if a later version you aren't up to, but thier search page offers a link showing the search options to get what you need, under the keywords entry field.  It shows why my search didn't work - it needs boolean operators by default:

Use     Means
apple banana    Find posts that contain at least one of these words
+apple +juice    Find posts with both words
+apple -juice    Find posts with 'apple' but not 'juice'
apple*    Find posts with 'apple' and/or 'applesauce'
"Some Words"    Find posts with the phrase 'some words of wisdom', 'some words' but not 'some noise words'

We're not on the very latest IPB release (yet), so these probably don't work on this forum.

I frequently need to search using more complex expressions.

for example, I am this very instant trying to find any article comparing the HP 8750 and the HP B9180 to see if the 9-ink system is indeed better than the 8-ink system or vice versa. my ideal search would be:

   8750 AND (9810 OR B9180)

or in google terms:

   +8750 +(9810 B9810)


I need to do these refined searches frequently. the current board software doesn't make refined searches possible and makes it very difficult to find exactly what we're looking for.

any chance of upgrading the board software?
