Tokina 28-70/2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro (1st iteration)

Hey guys. Has anyone used this lens before? I had the Pro II -- which is supposedly a slightly different design than the Angenieux - based optical formula of the Pro I.

Anyway, I shoot with a D800 and sold the Pro II to finance my 24-120/4.0. I regret selling it now, but I found a great Pro I (Angenieux-type) for sale, like-new condition, for $325 shipped.

Any thoughts on this lens as compared to, say, the Nikon 28-70/2.8 ? I know about the build quality of both very well. I've just never shot them side-by-side. Thanks!!

Hope you didn't buy this.  The 2nd version is the only one that was worthwhile.  It fixed the 1st version problems and was built like a tank.  The 3rd version they went cheap and it was a poor performer.
