Black, Rich Black, Shiny?

Hi all, I have an Epson XP-950 inkjet dye printer and I've noticed a serious problem; when I print e.g. a gradient from black to white the darkest end turns very shiny and has a noticeable gloss differential. If I convert it to CMYK and use the color CMY 0% K 100% the gloss goes away (although this is a weak black). Even CMYK all at 100% I don't get the gloss dif' if I save as CMYK.

What's going on with the RGB that's causing this? Is there a certain black RGB/CMYK all printers should avoid that I don't know about? I use Photoshop 7 to edit/make pics.

- what paper are you using?
- is the printer managing colors?
- are you using a printer profile for the paper?

- I get the same results on Glossy and matte photo paper of different brands (Epson, Kodak, PCworld).
- Yes the printer is managing colours. I have it set to EPSON Standard, Photo quality.
- Not sure, I've tried different printer settings like EPSON Ultra photo paper, EPSON Premium photo paper, and Inkjet glossy all with the same problem.
