Warren Buffett Explains Why War is Needed on Bloomberg

"Some People Just Don't Fit In The Economy" Buffett Explains: "We'll Send Them Off To Afghanistan"
===============

"You want everybody educated to their potential. You want people to reach their potential. That still won't work for some people in a highly developed market system.

I mean if this were a sports-based system, you could give me a PhD in football, and I could practice eight hours a day, and I might be able to carry the water from, not onto the field, but from the locker room to the bench. There's just some people don't fit well into a highly skilled market-based economy.

They're perfectly decent citizens. We'll send them off to Afghanistan, but they are not going to command a big price."

I looked at the link above, and also at the comments that follow it beneath. I know zero about the publication itself, but the odour of PC rose high into the air.

Buffett is saying nothing more than what all of us already know from experience of others as well as of ourselves: all people are not created equal. That's not a slur, it's not even a mild put-down: it's the truth, exactly as he described it in his sport analogy explanation. Hell's teeth, look no further than photography, of which we all pride ourselves as having some understanding: what you can do isn't necessarily what I can or want to do; what I can do is possibly just as equally impossible for somebody else. It was ever so; why is it suddenly controversial? You know the answer: it isn't; it's being made to look as if it is by the PC brotherhood. And that's all it is: a new socio-political dogma without the honesty to wave a flag. Why do I think of a parade of knee-jerks?

War on Bloomberg seems a bit harsh.

As an afterthought: perhaps some responsible birth control would have done so.

I have a theory about population perfection: if every couple reproduces a maximum of two children, then at worst, it simply replaces the use of its own space, for where there were two there would be four, but with time it's inevitably back to two. Only one, and the poulation runs down; more than two and you encourage mass starvation.

And it's not governed by the couple's money or how it sees affordability of unit expansion: it's governed by global physical space and supply of resources.

Those quotes you posted, Gulag, are cherry picked out of Buffet's contextual flow that misplaced emphasis and changed the meaning of what Buffet said.

I watched the video and I believe Buffet's statement of sending low skilled labor not making above the poverty line to Afghanistan is a misinterpretation from interrupted contextual flow of his main point that something needs to be done for these people (instead of raising the minimum wage) whose skill sets don't allow them to fit within a fast paced, high tech, market economy OR ELSE THEY END UP GOING TO AFGHANISTAN as an inevitable alternative to improve their standard of living. Only he says it in an exasperated manner by changing 'they' to 'we'. IOW no matter what low wage earners do all they have left is to take the military route to get ahead.

Buffet...

Quote
"We've got to do something for them. We have the resources".

The level of misinterpretation by the site hosting that Buffet/Bloomberg video interview is akin to speaking another language, a language developed by someone with a skill set that makes them unfit and of low character to serve in Afghanistan.

And I've been a poor person (below the poverty line) all my life and now living at the poverty line. The standard of living I have now is leaps and bounds better than when I had growing up with my 3 siblings back in the '60's & '70's with my dad working as a frac truck driver for Halliburton in Texas.

Strangely or surprisingly to get this raised standard of living I had to stop working for and with A-holes.

There is nothing new under the sun as the scripture says. What Buffett says has been the American tradition since the beginning.  According to history,  they used to use those (white economic underclass) to fight the natives in the frontier so that they wouldn't become uncontrollable for the ruling elite class, while the middle class was created as a buffer between the two inside the society to further assure safety.

Yup, we should all follow the Soviet way instead. Always fancied a matching fur coat and hat; sable, of course.

Apparently, Gulag, you've never heard of free will. No one forces anyone to do anything, not even going to war in Afghanistan. You're view of the world is too simplistic and overly dramatic.

The one thing good about a complex world is there are now more and more options and directions to take employing free will. I am one of those that got ahead navigating that complexity and learned quite a bit along the way.

Quite obviously you have never heard of the great debate between free will and determinism. By the way it's never too late to learn.
