CS5 locks up if gamut warning is active and I zoom more than 50%

I have Photoshop CS5 extended, and I just ran into a odd problem. If gamut warning is active and I try to zoom past 50% the screen starts to refresh in a random order, and I can see single blocks that are in focus (I believe there called tiles) everything else is blurry, but they start to refresh one at time and I haven't waited for it to finsh.
This takes forever and PH is non responsive, but task MGR says PH is running, and the CPU is above 90% to 100% and I have "End Task" to get out. Its all good as long as I don't zoom past 50%
I did try resetting the preference file, but that made no difference. I disabled      Open GL, that didn't help either.
One other thing, when I check the Gamut warning, the screen blinks, gets fussy, then comes back with out of gamut colors (gray) this takes about 1 second.
Windows 7 ultimate 64 8GB ram, video card 250MB ram

Just tried it here, no problem. My first suggestion would be that it's an graphics acceleration issue, but you say you already tried disabling OpenGL (you did restart Photoshop for that change to take effect?).

Even if it's not an Open GL issue I would think it's most likely a video card/driver issue of some sort, especially given the "screen blinks, gets fussy, then comes back" behavior you're seeing at normal zoom levels. Check to see if there are newer drivers available.

FWIW I'm running Win7 x64 with a FirePro V4800 card.

Have you tried updating your video card drivers?  If you just did that and that is the point the problem started, have you tried reinstalling an older version?

I have the ATI FireGL v3600, I just checked, and there is a new driver, just released 5-3-11 for Win7 64
I'm a bit surprised as this card is getting old.
I will upgrade the driver over the weekend and report back.

This issue just keeps getting deeper. I tried to load the driver released 5-3-11 for Win7 64.
Win7 won't load this driver, so I uninstalled the old driver, now I'm in VGA mode wondering how I'm going to load anything, but Win7 managed to put the old driver back for me.
It says I already have the latest best driver, but then I checked the AMD web site yesterday and there's now another (newer) driver released 6-6-11 that driver won't load either.
But now PhotoShop tells me that Open GL is unavailable, but so is the problem I was having with Photoshop, so yes, this isn't a photo shop problem.
This video card isn't even a year, old but still in warranty.
The AMD web site has no phone number for tech support, but you can send them a message which I did, there reply asked me which AMD processor I had, in my message it was clear that I was having video card trouble.
I guess I'll just have to keep trying until AMD gets it right.
