Nikon D2H white balance issue
« on: May 25, 2004, 04:33:23 am »

Michael,
I had an issue with a Nikon D2H and white balance. It was really a problem under non-natural lights. Photos had a very yellow glow/cast. I could never find a way to get a good white balance using the ambiant sensor in non-natural light.
Outside (daylight) was not a problem and if the white balance was off I could easily correct it in Camera RAW.

I have returned the camera (because it was not mine). So I'm sorry to say that I haven't found a solution. It's possible that this camera had a some sort of malfunction, though. The owner is happy with it and shoots only outside in daylight.

You should try to post your question on the Rob Galbraith forum.

Good luck with your D2H, it's an amazing piece of equipment.

I really hope that Nikon adresses this issue.
I could compare both the D2H and EOS-1D2 at the same time/conditions and the EOS didn't have that yellow tint. Rumors say the a firmware update is coming, but who knows - rumors are rumors.

Nikon D2H white balance issue

Has anyone used the ambient light sensor (rather than the white card) to measure white balance? If so how accurate is it? When I balance with a grey card the D2H is accurate, but when I use the ambient light sensor the image is quite yellow. I'm trying to determine if I have a problem with my D2H, or if this is the way the D2H works.
Thanks,
Michael

Francois,

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps this is a issue with all D2Hs since that is exactly what is happening to mine. Images are very yellow, and usually about the same amount. It is somewhat consistant so it is easy to fix, but I would prefer that it work correctly. Perhaps the firmware upgrade will address this.
