custom tone curves for Eos 1d mk2

With the Eos 1d mk 2 I can create custom curves.

I shoot with spot metering linked to the af point.

If the af point is the absolute brightest point in the image what shape should i make the curve if I want everything else to rapidly fall into shadows?

My guess is that it is a very steep S shaped curve with the top point of the slope being close to the upper right side and the bottom of the curve closer to the middle at the bottom.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

Also can you save the curve settings in a file that can be exported by email?

Custom tone curves are only useful if you shoot JPEG (absolutely dumb in most cases) or actually use the Canon RAW converter. You're better off shooting RAW and using whatever curve is appropriate for the image in the RAW converter.

I do understand exactly what you meant by adjusting the curve in post....However...

Do you think that using these curves makes any adjustments to the in camera exposure algorithms?

I am sure that I get different histogram values on my raw files when I am using a curve...

Definitely not. The camera meter is a separate circuit and is not affected in any way by tone curve, color space selection, etc. The only thing affected by these things is live histogram display if your camera has one.

They are also useful to force a more-accurate histogram, which I know that you know is created from the jpg thumbnail shown on the LCD...
