Canon 1ds Mkiii stock
« on: December 20, 2007, 07:27:20 am »

I am still waiting for my MkIII (ordered in early September) and my local dealer said it would be here by the end of this week finally. Sadly though he called this morning to tell me Canon will not be able to send any till 15th of January... Looking around I figured it is not the dealer but Canon itself. I cannot figure why they fulfilled only just a few of pre-orders around the globe. Does anyone by any chance know of any store in Europe that is able to deliver before the end of January? Are many of you in the same situation I wonder...

That's normal for new Canon models; demand is far greater than supply for the first few months. Your only hope of getting one sooner is to find a store where someone canceled a pre-order (many people pre-order from more than one store, but only buy from the first store that receives stock) and no one is in line behind them, or to go to a large store the day they receive a shipment if some of that shipment isn't already allocated for fulfilling existing orders. Good luck, you will need it. Or else patience.

I waited almost two months for my 1Ds, but got lucky with my 1D-MkII; a guy had ordered from two different stores online, and they both shipped the same day. So I bought the second camera from him for what he paid for it; he had opened the box and had taken perhaps 5 shots just to make sure it worked before mailing it to me.

I also pre ordered (and prepaid) in August  hoping to be high in the lineup.

Still haven't received anything  (Calumet  Chicago)  They did say I was next in line whenever they receive more units.

Don't have much time to use it right now anyway but it would be nice to handle the new baby.

Also a bit of salt in the wounds ,  per say,   to hear over and over of others in Canada and across the globe shooting with thier new camera  And here we are still waiting to get it in our hands.

patience, I have heard,  is a virtue  (also things that are in hospitals)

Well, I am in Canada and have not gotten mine and yet I preordered and made a deposit in early Sept. So far, my dealer (a major pro camera chain) has had only one camera in and they say all the first ones will go to CPS members. Only after that will us regular folks be allowed to fork over $8,000 for the privelege. They are telling me I won't get mine till January but I have my doubts...

I managed to pick one up from stock in London the other day with no pre-ordering. There are a couple of stores with them in the window - although there's one less now!

Jacobs on New Oxford St had at least one more in stock, Cameraworld in Wells St had one, and maybe others.

I get the sense that after Canon's recent mishaps with the 1d3 and other minor hiccups with the 5D, they want to let a few out there and make sure the production models are okay before they unleash the first full run.  Just a guess...

Nicely said...
My opinion is that this situation with 1ds stock, is due to a twisted mind's marketing tactics
I think if there was another competitor at this level of Dslr (say Nikon), we would all have our hands on one Mkiii now.

I too am waiting on an order I placed months ago for the 1Ds mark III.

Coincidentally,  I've been talking with the person who runs a website which tracks the availability of various hard to find products through online retailers.  He agreed to track the 1Ds Mark III & D3.  It sends an email alert when an item is in stock.  Most of the sites listed probably have a backlog of orders, but it may work at places like Amazon who are not taking pre-orders.   I've just signed up for email alerts, hopefully it works out.  You can find it here:  www.nowinstock.net/digitalcameras

You can find them at Newegg as well but I think it's luck of the draw at this point.
