HPZ3200 Error code 01.1:10
« on: January 30, 2026, 03:55:12 am »

My printer in the US is throwing this code: 01.1:10. I am in Switzerland at the moment but I have someone in the US working on my machine to try to resolve the problem. I also have an expert contact in Germany and they recommended that I replace the formatter board and the main PCA. I went ahead and ordered a new complete PSU with main PCA and a new formatter board with a virgin hard drive (it came with the latest Firmware for Rev B). Even after installing these parts the same error code is coming up. My tech tried  several combinations with the formatters and hard drives.
1.) Old hard drive with the new formatter.  Same error code.
2.) New formatter with new hard drive.  Same error code.
3.) New hard drive with old formatter.  Same error code.
I am aware that the hard drive and print mech board communicate specific information and that you should never replace both at the same time. I am waiting on some feedback from my people in Germany but it seems that the next step would be to replace the print mech board.
I am wondering if the old formatter/HD should go back in first and then try to replace the print mech board. I am not sure if anything has been written the to the new HD from the print mech board. What do you think would be the next step?

Hi, did they try replacing just the PSU/Mainboard? (leave the old formatter/drive in)

I was able to get this issue partially sorted out. I installed a new formatter and HD from LPS. I can get the printer to initialize and make prints but only through the USB port. The display shows no IP connectivity. Under the connectivity menu it shows that IP is installed but not enabled. I can't seem to find a way within the menu to enable IP printing. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Update: I am still getting the error code.

Under Connectivity > Gigabit Ethernet > IPv4 I chose the DHCP option and set the Primary DNS as my router's IP address. I think that's all it needs.

(I didn't bother setting up IPv6. I also used to choose Manual instead of DHCP and give it a static IP address but I don't anymore.)

I also gave the printer a Hostname but I think that's optional (I called it "Z3200PS").

There's a Factory Reset option in that same menu too if needed to clear old settings.

The printer should show its IP address (and optionally its hostname) on the front panel home screen.

Might need to reboot router / printer / PC after changes so they all find each other.

it doesn't allow me to setup IP under that menu item. Maybe I have to try the reset to defaults

Maybe we have different firmware, I dunno. But everything should be in the sub-menus under Gigabit Ethernet. On mine it's Modify Config > TCP/IP > IPv4.  Config Method has the DHCP option, and Primary DNS is for the router IP address.

This is what I did today: 8/5/2026
1.) Put old formatter and old HD does not boot blank screen only
2.) Put in new formatter and new HD starts to boot but then get 01.1:10 error
3.) I can access diagnostics menu with new formatter and HD
4.) Ran run diagnostics on electronics module and then error came
5.) Tried to run diagnostics again on carriage it worked but line sensor out of tolerance error 55:11
6.) Ran electronics module test again and all passed
7.) Ran scan axis test ok
8.) Test io no active interface found
9.) New formatter and new HD Restarted printer starts to initialize and then throws error
10.) Tried new formatter with old HD  does not boot blank screen only
11.) Tried old formatter with new HD starts to boot and then error comes
12.) New formatter with new HD-can access service menu-ran electronics module test fails first test with error code 1.01:10
13.) New formatter with old HD-will not boot into service menu
14.) Old formatter with old HD will not boot into service mode

I wonder if should buy new formatter/HD+connceting cable + printmech board

Oof, dog's breakfast...  :-\

I was going to suggest making sure the formatter board is fully seated into the socket on the mainboard, because it has some firm resistance when inserting it, but after that many tests you've probably got a good handle now on when it's actually fully seated. So that's probably not an issue.

Maybe the hardware and/or firmware are mismatched somehow, like maybe one of them is a wrong version for your printer, I dunno. When shopping ebay etc I sometimes saw parts listed for the wrong printer model.

Did you replace the mainboard already too? (the one in the metal box with the power supply) Asking because the service manual lists that as the first possible fix for error 01.1, and then the formatter as the second one.

Hopefully LPS can help out since you bought the formatter from them.

I don't think swapping drives between formatters will help. My understanding is a drive will only run with the first formatter it's installed on when new. After that initialization they are permanently "paired" and the drive will not work on any other formatter board (which makes drives from used printers useless). There's no undo so if the new drive inadvertently got paired with the old formatter during the swap tests, there's no way to make that new drive work on the new formatter, you'd need to get another new drive (as I understand it).

Your old formatter/drive aren't booting at all, but the new pair is, so that seems to be progress. Maybe it needs the new mainboard.

I always appreciate your input Kyle. The error is 01.1:10 intermittently. A few days ago it worked fine all day with the old formatter and old HD and I made some prints for my gallery. Thank god for that! It behaves the same with the old PSU and new PSU. Doesn't seem to make a difference. When I put in the new formatter with the new HD I cannot enable IP. I wonder if the firmware on the new HD was installed incorrectly. I am hoping LPS can help me, we will see....

I replaced the printmech board but I think my tech tried it while I was gone and I think it paired to the old HD. I am getting a 59.2:00 which means used parts have been installed. LPS told me I need a virgin HD which I just ordered. I think that the HD only pairs with the printmech board and not the formatter. It seems that there is a lot conflicting info on the web about this.

I think that the HD only pairs with the printmech board and not the formatter. It seems that there is a lot conflicting info on the web about this.

So my understanding is there are actually 2 different "pairings" going on and I think that's where some confusion comes from.

The first pairing is between the formatter and the print mech PCA. Both have NVM (non-volatile memory) that records the printer's serial number. One has the primary NVM and the other has the back-up NVM (see attached). A new part comes with a default serial number and when installed in the printer it looks at the opposite part and copies the printer's actual serial number from it. Thus the rule that we can't replace both parts at the same time, because both would have default serial numbers so they can't find the printer's actual serial number and it fails (the error 71:19). One must be completely replaced before the other (order doesn't matter).

The second pairing is between the hard drive and the formatter. When a fresh hard drive is installed it copies the printer's serial number, model, etc from the formatter. After that the drive can't be used in any other printer (without resorting to linux methods etc).

Where it's a little fuzzy is whether 2 drives from the same printer can be used on 2 different formatters in that printer, like you were trying. The service manual seems to assume that replacing the formatter comes with a new drive, the formatter isn't swapped while keeping the old drive. So it might be that a paired drive will not work on any other formatter, even if it's in the same printer.

All that does little to figure out what's actually wrong with your printer tho...

It seems that the HD and formatter are not paired. See the email below from LPS.

The formatter itself doesn't pair to the printmech board --only the hard drive pairs to the printmech board. You will need a virgin hard disk in order to use the novel printmech board.

Hi Art,
Always happy to help. No components pair to the formatter, and the formatter pairs to no components. It's a totally neutral factor.

Best,

Tbh I think it gets twisted up in the definition of "pairing" (which is why I put it in quotes earlier)...

Regardless of whether one calls it "pairing", a drive that's been used in one printer cannot be used in another.

Both the formatter and print mech PCA *can* be used in another printer, as long as they are replaced one at a time so that the serial number from the previous printer is overwritten by the serial number of the new printer (or so sayeth the service manual). Otherwise it won't work if both are replaced simultaneously.

So the only caution to worry about then is that the hard drives are one-shot deals: once it's been initialized on a printer, it's permanently married to that printer.

Sounds like LPS is confirming that the formatter can be swapped while re-using its old drive (in the same printer), so that's good news.

I notice error 59.2 has two possible causes: "An unsupported part or a part that has already been used has been
installed." Since hard drives can be re-used in the same printer, then maybe your error source is the first option, that it's "an unsupported part". I assume that means wrong version/model/firmware or something.

Anyhow hopefully your new drive #2 gets it going. I mean you've replaced basically everything by now (formatter, print mech PCA, and mainboard).

The new HD did the trick. Oddly enough I could not get IP connectivity enabled with the new formatter from LPS. I put in my old formatter with the new HD and print mech board and it works. I will put the LPS formatter back in and try a factory reset and see that works. I hope it doesn’t screw up anything else now that I have it working.

That's good news that the new(er) drive fixed it. I wonder if maybe the ailing drive was the only problem all along?

I suppose you could find out by trying the old mainboard, PSU, and print mech board in it again.  But after all the work to get it going that's probably too much of a PITA to bother with. Maybe keep them around as potential "spares" tho just in case.

After many hours I finally came to to the conclusion that the formatter board is bad. Let's see what kind of support LPS provides. I am not messing around with this thing anymore for now. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
