Updated LR Classic

Over the weekend, I updated LR Classic to the latest release: 15.4.1. First thing I noticed was that I only got a few of my collections back. How do I recover the ones that are missing? Also, looking at a few of the folders, I notice that only a handful of the ones that were colored marked (I use green, blue & red mostly) are available. Also, a lot of the files that I knew had been edited, don't show ANY of the edits I made. Can anyone tell me what went on with this latest change? This is literally, years of work gone.

None of what you reported took place on this end nor should it.
Got a backup catalog to try?

Yup, anyone updating will get that. And there's always a zip backup of the old catalog 'just in case'. I don't know what happened, but what you reported shouldn't have happened, so you have to try again. My updated catalog didn't suffer anything like what you describe. It was updated without issue.

When I updated, I thought it a good time to do a little cleanup of my files. This was before I found out my Smart Collections were gone. When I tried what you suggested (of going back to the zip file, and I opened the lrcat file, it opened the same way as it did when this started. When I had consolidated some files, to clean up the organization of them, I then had to re import the folders but ended up increasing the size of the images on the hard drive to the point that I don't have any room left. I can assure you that the drive was nowhere that full before all this started. At this point I'm at the point of moving everything off the "G" and on to the "I" drive. (see fig 1) as a temporary hold for the image files. Then try to open the last good LR (that I'm aware of)- see Fig 2 so that could be the new updated LR. Fig 3 is from the left-hand side if the screen as of now.

I really have no idea what you've done to mess this up.
IF you have an older backup of the catalog, it should be fine. Unless something got hosed before you did the upgrade, then there's no help. Smart Collections shouldn’t just disappear. I've never seen that either.
The ? on folders is easy to fix; just redirect LR to the location of that folder. It usually happens when a user does something outside LR, like move, rename, or delete a folder from the Finder. All that must take place within LR, as it can be.
IF you move anything outside of doing so within LR, you'll make everything far worse.

I really don't know what happened either. This has never happened with previous updates, and I have been a LR user since it first came out. This last time however as I stated, I updated per the notice, as I've done in the past and when LR opened, I noticed that most of the Smart collections weren't there. There is now only one. That is when I tried to consolidate some of the folders though the "G" drive, which is where I always import new images into. I make new folders through LR. After this update, I consolidated some images into new folders. When I didn't see these new folders in LR, I tried to re-import them. That is when I also noticed that the "G" drive was filling up beyond what was originally there. I also noticed that when I opened a folder, I didn't see images that I knew I had made edits to, didn't show any of the edits. The images just looked like I just freshly imported them. However, when I looked at the "All Photographs" - 12845 - all (most) of my edited, color/star flagged images were there, including images from folders that do not show up under "Folders" (from fig. 3). I still cannot understand why the "G" drive filled up the way it did. I consolidated images into new folders (example, multiple trips were put into one folder labeled "Trips") but that doesn't show up under Folders, (again fig 3). I did this to my years of attending the yearly Renaissance Festival under RENFEST and it is listed (long with all the sub folders). I did this to some other folders as well and tried to import them, but the drive was getting too full to except anymore, so I move those folders to a different drive altogether, but again, the "G" drive is still in the red. At this point I'm not sure what I can do other than to save what is left to another drive and remove LR altogether, re download it (I have the subscription), and repopulate it. and to start all over.
