How to invert digital copy of color film negative?

Using ON1, copying in RAW. Will consider other software. Not Photoshop or Lightroom!

The main problem is to eliminate the orange cast of the film.

Any current experience will be helpful.

You might want to check out Negative Lab Pro (negativelabpro.com). That's what I use. It has different color filters to remove the cast depending on the type/manufacturer of the negative and can also remove the cast by color sampling an area of the film strip between exposures.

Negative Lab Pro would be a good option, but it works with Lightoom Classic only.

The basic way to eliminate the orange cast is to white balance it (with the eyedropper over an unexposed area) and then invert the image. I don't know about ON1, but if it does not have an invert function, you can do it with a curve by dragging the left side all the way up and the right side all the way down.

Note that after inverting some controls will have the opposite effect. For example, if you increase exposure, the image will get darker.

You can try Rawtherapee. I have used it in the past, it is an excellent raw editor. They added a feature to invert colour negatives. No idea how good it is, but that team has pretty high standards.

i vaguely recall that Vuescan (Ed Hamrick and his son) can invert raw files as well.

Darktable has a whole module to deal with negative scans. Works perfectly for the few times I needed it. Its free
