HP z3100 MK-R printhead anyone? Please HELP!
« on: May 01, 2025, 06:18:59 pm »

Does anyone have a lead on where I can get this? The third party ones don't seem to have an MK-R head...but an MK-Cyan one. It is confusing.
Does anyone know where I could purchase one? I am in desperate need as I have a lot of printing to do...and besides the bummed head the printer is otherwise performing well and has quite a bit of life left.

Hi, the MK-R head for the Z3100, and it's related R ink cart, were the first HP 70 series items discontinued by HP because the Z3100 was the only printer that used them. So they're hard to find.

Depending on what's wrong with your current MK-R head it may be possible to recover it. A common problem with all HP 70 heads is they get air in them and no longer print correctly, and can ultimately fail from overheating. If the head hasn't yet failed you can purge the air and re-prime them with ink and continue using them.

I stumbled over one last month on ebay and even tho it was bundled with stuff I didn't need I bought it all anyway. Might be the last one I ever get.

while you hunt around for an OEM one, maybe worth taking a gamble on one of the generic "compatible" ones for sale on amazon?

Obviously I cant speak for what quality or reliability you'll get out of them, but how hard can it be to make a printhead?

I cant imagine it could do any harm to try one out and see how you get on, especially if it gets you out of a tight spot

Some of the aftermarket printheads appear to be actual HP heads that have been relabelled / remanufactured / refurbished. There's no info on their origin and production. It does sorta give some hope that they might not be so bad tho.

That said, the ones I had (they came with the Z3200ps I rescued) didn't seem to work, although it's possible the printer was having other problems (I only got it going again after installing all new HP heads and inks). Some pics of them here: https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=141083.msg1242843#msg1242843
