Latest print fad, Ai images on Chromaluxe metal

Have several new clients sending me Ai images to print and press on Chromaluxe.
The pictures shown are several of the proofs we did as the finals will be 24x40" and 24x36"
As a lifelong printer of landscape and nature images this is very refreshing to do some new work.
As I have always suggested to my print clients choose the images with the best colors when selecting for metal prints and these don't disapoint.
Some of the new Ai images coming out just have the best popping color. Whether you agree or disagree that this is fine art they are selling.
How it will affect the art world of the future is a discussion for another day.
I was always quite skeptical about CMYK printers but Epson has really nailed it with this printer and inkset.

These look GREAT, Dan.   Our local metal printer has been inundated with “movie poster promotional art” ….. he’s making some serious coin doing it.  Many many “prints” of the same image.  His setup utilizes Epson’s gear for metal, and it looks really good.  Earlier metal prints were “green” to my eye, especially in blacks and deep shadows.  These new ones are really neutral.  There’s a “semigloss” panel that I especially like.

Very interesting about posters.
There has definitely been an improvement in the dye sub inksets. Two things in particular. The blacks are now black. I have had numerous posts about my struggles to get a good black on metal prints. It has always been off a little. More brown than black. Secondly the fade resistance has gotten much better. Past longevity in any kind of sunlight started at 5 years and faded quickly after that. Now using only Epson inks I notice no fading at all. These problems came mostly when printing with my converted P8000 and Ink Owl inkset. Since moving to the Epson printer and inks and fine tuning papers and profiles the improvements have been really good. The paper is S-Race120 vivid from Lexjet, sometimes under the name Infuze.
Price is still an issue as the Chromaluxe panels have increased by as much as 30%. $45 to $50 a sq. Ft. is pretty much the going rate these days to the end customer. Not bad when doing small prints but when pressing large ones they can get expensive really fast.
