hugin - free panorama tool besting Lightroom/CaptureOne

Every now and then I have a look at the various panorama stitching tools. In the paid space, only PTGui is impproving. Lightroom, CaptureOne are static - no improvements since they were announced. In the free software space it is different.

hugin (https://hugin.sourceforge.io/download/) has been moving along with continued updates. it offers over 20 different projection algorithms (I haven't counted, but the list is LONG), compared to Lightroom's 3. More importantly, while the UI is a bit basic, it manages to complete merges correctly that Lightroom cannot. Exposure compensation now produces output without the issues I see with Capture One. Lightroom does create bigger pictures (more pixels) but when the image isn't usable, more pixels is of no value.

Interesting to read about Hugin, especially since PT-Gui has become more expensive over the years. Pt-gui and Hugin are based on the same fundament made by Helmut Dersch.
I am a pt-GUI user and must say that the software is very well made and fast. There will be a new version 13 coming up with for me not that interesting new features. Version 12 however had a lot of basic improvements.
One of those programs that are worth learning into.
