New (yes, >new<) Z3200PS "Faulty Printhead"... but it's not faulty.

I recently picked up 2 new-in-boxes 2018 Z3200PS 24s on eBay.  One works great, the other is throwing an error message saying the E-G printhead is faulty.  I put in another new head, same story. Then I tried a known working printhead and it threw the same error. 

Any ideas? I could switch the carriage assembly out with a known working one but I don't want to dig that deep unless I have to.  I have spare parts for literally everything except those that are specific to the postscript version.  Worse comes to worst, I could swap parts from the other new 3200PS, but that's last resort. I'm still waiting to hear from HP if they'll honor the warranty (I'm not holding my breath).

It's basically kill the power and reboot a couple times and hope it goes away.

Make sure you're doing the initial set up with nearly full ink carts if you can, it's been said that sometimes it gets trapped in an error loop if one of the in carts is low when trying to initialize.

Get the printhead status/error code from the printer panel Info menu so we can look it up in the service manual to find out what it thinks is wrong.

I don't know if the ink tubes are pre-primed or not out of the box. If they are, maybe some air in them after such long time that needs to be pulled through:

I suppose fresh CMOS battery is a long shot.

I tried the double reboot thing. No luck. After trying the original, new printhead again I tried a second used one. It worked. There are ghosts in the machine, indeed.

Is it possible these were returned due to some issues and was just a fire sale to unload warranty returns?

What are the printhead status/error codes? Front panel, info menu. Post the numbers here, can check them in the service manual. If you used multiple printheads it'll remember the codes for each one (up to 3 heads for each slot I think).

No, they were in sealed cartons. Definitely never set up before; totally pristine. Since they've been sitting in who knows how many warehouses since they were built, I'm expecting for some things to go south-- especially the included inks and printheads.

Is the printer working now? I have had defective print heads for my Z3200. Returned to B&H for replacement

Just wanted to mention that the Bios batteri in the printer may be old, and a symptom is rejecting new printheads. Ordinary CR2032 batteries

Also, USB printer cables or other cables can go bad. I have a faulty USB A to B printer cable here. I marked it with faulty. I ought to use scissors and cut it in pieces
