Here's the backstory: we've got a HP T1700dr at work, where it's mostly used for research posters for conferences (I bought it secondhand a year ago because I was tired of watching colleagues lose their minds over expensive last-minute printing). It's been great for conference posters, but I'd also like to use it for the occasional gigantic photo, and that's where I'm running into issues. So, I'm looking for suggestions / recommendations for papers for two applications:
1. Photo printing - I've trialled HP's Universal Satin (1421B), and a roll of the old formulation was fantastic... but HP seems to have changed the paper at some point (the boxes now have a "new" sticker on them) and it's lousy. Feels pretty similar to their Universal Instant-Dry Satin (Q6580A), which doesn't look great, and has awful UV stability with the HP inks. Anyone know of a good replacement?
2. Conference posters - Here, we're pretty happy, but I'd wonder if anyone has ideas for better longevity. We're standardized on HP Q1413B / Q1414B (Heavyweight Coated), which gives us nice posters quite quickly... but the UV stability (labs like to put them up on the wall after the conference) isn't awesome.
In a lot of ways, I'm comparing the T1700 to my home Designjet - I've run a DJ130 for my own photography since 2012 and am still quite happy with it - and I've reached out to HP's people, who aren't particularly helpful in knowing their own product line.
