Printer quality puzzle HP Z3200PS

Hi my worries never end..
My belt first failed.. and I replaced it myself.
Then the starwheel motor failed. I replaced it myself..
Next was the power supply (03.10 error). I replaced it myself...
Now I have this puzzler which I've tried to google without success. What can cause this? Would welcome any pointers. Thank you

I aligned the printheads, and now the defective section of the print has moved to the next row!

It's been a long time since I've had an HP (3100).  This looks like paper slipping / not feeding properly, ie jumping.

I can't even remember the feed mechanism on the HP ... rollers?  If so clean them?

Thanks Mike. Yes I've had a couple of mysterious messages of a possible paper jam recently but with no obvious jam. Maybe that's the issue..

Great advice. It's fixed. A bit of a learning curve for me. Following the service manual there was a hidden menu available in utilities (press down and cancel at the same time). This led to "turn drive roller" and allowed me to clean it. Doubt if it's ever been done before. First print afterwards was flawless. Thanks !!!

But then there was a clear reason - was there still paper left on the drive roller? how did you clean it?

Kers I cleaned it with mild detergent on some lint free cloth while advancing the roller. There was no obvious paper stuck on it, but some fairly thick deposits of ink which I managed to remove. Anyhow I was too optimistic the problem is still there! There are other problems. Now I have a 22.3.10 error. Maybe I should start another thread, but here is my post on the HP support group. I really could use some suggestions!!

Hello again. I'm still trying to troubleshoot my 22.3.10 error message which I believe relates to the Some more information on this issue.

Admittedly I am still a little lost! Should I strip down and clean the ink service station or should I buy another one?

I booted up in service mode again and ran some tests this evening..

1)  The service station tested as Okay.

2) I attempted to print a diagnostic print. Half way through printer stops with error 81.01 Possible paper jam. This has happened once before in my current troubles and both times I can see no cause for the jam message.

3) Yesterday (I have this one on video!) the paper was in position ready to print and there was a loud sound and the paper was vibrating back and forward rapidly with a few mms of travel.

4) I ran option 6 SOL (not sure what that means) However when Capping service station appeared in the window, immediately there appeared the 22.3.10 error

Well, a lot of trouble indeed...
There is something seriously wrong with the paper transport..
i would take the body work off to see what is going on when you are starting to print.
don't look too much to the numbers - when one thing is wrong others are as well- you can get any error...
maybe it is end of life... do you know how much this printer has worked ?

I think perhaps you are right. I have had the printer a number of years and bought it from a graphics design firm. Likely it has been well used. I don't like to admit defeat but it looks like this may have to be the case. I'll update if I make any progress...

Given that the paper transport axle was that dirty I  have some suggestions:

Line 3 could indicate friction on the paper transport axle or a dirty encoding disc (or failing sensor) of that axle, the servo motor of that  axle failing is less likely.

That last line indicates to me that he head carriage may have too much friction on the rod (so lubricate), or the encoding strip has to be cleaned or the head carriage motor has issues.

I'd take the left cover off and examine the white plastic transport gears. I had one break a tooth, and it took me a while to diagnose it, but once I did, it was a reasonably easy fix.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Dirty encoding disc is a very useful pointer. I might take that cover off again and take a look at those teeth but some of those gears were replaced when I changed the starwheel motor. At least now I am more hopeful of getting it fixed.

There was some greasy substance - presumably from the gears -  on the encoder disc. I cleaned it as best as I could and the paper jam fault has gone. Of course it was asking too much for the printer to function correctly on power up, and now I am back to another problem. 22.3.10 which is the Bongo No.4 from the left side of the printer. I followed the instructions on the official service manual. Entered service mode and tested the ink supply station. IDS diagnostic simply reproduced the original error (You can see the devices moving up and down as they are tested. S0, another used unit is on it's way to me. Removing the original one was quite painless. There was a spill of magenta ink within the supply station with some contamination of the contacts. Unfortunately Magenta would be 22.4.10 if I understand correctly.

I bought a replacement left side ink Supply station and later discovered that I'd misunderstood the manual and in fact the error code referred to the right ink Supply station. Luckily Bristol Inkjets had one to send me and fingers crossed I have my working printer again!! Thanks for all your help and advice..

Well I have finally fixed this thing. I bought some new pads for the ink service station and gave it a thorough clean. What a messy job. I gather they are meant to be just replaced! However when I put it all back together the printer refused to recognise the Red ink cartridge, which turned out to be just a loose cable at the service station (I think?!). Any how after a lengthy saga in which I almost gave up trying (and thanks to your advice)  I have my printer back

And if the Bios battery is low, those printers can send some weird error messages and reject printer heads that are just fine. Just mentioning.
And the blue things that hold the paper, they have to be clicked in correctly or you may get faulty prints like you posted, looks just like that
