Bryce Canyon - from top to bottom, during a whirlwind visit
« on: December 10, 2023, 07:56:58 pm »

We hadn't planned to go to Bryce, but decided to squeeze it in at the last minute for a whirlwind visit, arriving late on a Sunday evening and well after there was any decent light left in the sky. So spent most of our time trying to find a motel with a room still available and a general store where we could stock up on supplies. Then up at 'stupid O'clock' the following morning and straight out for a dawn shoot, before getting back on the road heading to yet another location, several hundred miles away. So all in all, we probably only had maybe two hours at the canyon rim itself.

Then on our way down and out of the Bryce Canyon area, I spotted this second view from the side of the road and where the clouds and the light looked absolutely amazing, so I grabbed another shot of that, before we moved on.

Yes I know, lucky old so-and-so aren't I?  ;D

Perfect timing with the light!

Thanks Francois  ;)

Our visit to the Canyon might have been extremely brief, but it still became one of the most memorable parts of the holiday for both of us.

Thanks. A friend of mine planned his first visit for a few months before getting there, just to be sure to hit all the interesting spots (for him). He arrived late at night and when he woke, the place was covered with snow and the fog was so dense that he never got to see any rock formation. The weather forecast announced the snow and fog "in a few days" only. He was really disappointed.

Fortunately, he got to see plenty of other spectacular landscapes but  he will remember the snow and fog in Bryce for a very long time.

Thanks again everyone  :)

And yes I agree, Bryce Canyon is a "Must Visit" location for all landscape photographers, because it is just so photogenic and atmospheric.

I understand now that you left Scotland.... (!)
The US has such dramatic and beautiful landscapes ...  these photos are amazing!
As a physical Geographer i have seen many aireal stereo photos of the US landscapes... always have been intrigued by the diversity and the extremes.

Yes as beautiful and photogenic as it is where I live, it is always nice to photograph in other places when I can. Although I must say my success rate shooting at home here in Scotland, does seem to be a lot higher than when I go elsewhere, even in the rest of the UK. But that is probably due to the fact, that I can go out to photograph my local areas more often and continue going back throughout the seasons. Whereas when I am on holiday, its more often than not a "run and gun" style of photography. Which is still very enjoyable, but not quite as productive I think  ;)

Although I did come back with quite a few good 'uns, from my most recent trip to the US..

And you don't get to see birds like this in Scotland  :o
