Assuming you on a Mac OS, the translucency is controlled by the operating system.

See here: Monterey (Mac OS) change transparency 'My Computer My Way'

I finally managed to locate the method,,,after a few hours searching about in the dark..

I just this month upgraded from a 2013 computer to a 2021 M1  iMac..

its been great for most things....the few inconveniences like being utterly distracted by those inane menu DECORATIONS... I could have done without.

Thank you.

Yes, there is a way to disable translucent drop-down menus in Photoshop. To do this, follow these steps:

Open Photoshop.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Interface.
In the Interface preferences, uncheck the Use Legacy Drop-Down Menus checkbox.
Click OK to save your changes.

Once you have disabled translucent drop-down menus, they will no longer be acceptable. They will instead be opaque, which may make them easier to see and use.
