i1 Profiler Test Charts default to ARGB - can it be changed?

My i1 Profiler test charts seem to show up as in ARGB profile in Photoshop - why?
And/or can it be set to output in the bigger ProPhoto space?

Certainly a good number of printer inksets exceed ARGB now, so why restrict it to that?
I'm profiling Epson Pigment and Dye printers, just for myself, using i1XL and typically a single page 2976 "Super-B' chart.

test charts should never be color managed-- the charts you are using don't have embedded profiles, so they are using your photoshop settings and applying adobeRGB when they're being opened.  as long as you print them without color management, and if you're doing anything to edit them (cropping etc) if you save without embedding a profile you'll be fine.  Just never do any "assign profile" or "convert to profile" operations.

Thanks, got it. and yes, of course I print with no color management on either printer or Photoshop*.
It's just a little confusing when you open a chart up for printing, and it says it's in ARGB!

Actually just reprinted it and noticed it says 'Untagged RGB' in Photoshop print option dialog.

(*Photoshop seems to have removed the 'No Color Management' option from more recent versions. You have to choose 'printer manages color', and then set the printer settings = no color management to get there. No idea why they did that, but they did!)

The targets are and MUST be untagged RGB. You must have your PS settings setup to assign this to untagged RGB documents. Don't do that, at least do not allow targets to be tagged that way. You cannot print these targets as untagged (no CMS) in any modern version of Photoshop.

Although you can’t print as untagged, like you mentioned, it’s still possible to print without CMS by doing a null transform.

A null profile conversion assumes a profile. That is not printing without color management. The proper way to print targets is to send RGB numbers to the print driver without color management.

You need to use the Adobe Color Print Utility (ACPU) available here:

Oh, as for the Null profile hack, no, not possible in modern versions of Photoshop. Assign a profile, then pick the same profile for output, and you get this warning. Just use Adobe Color Print Utility or a product that allows the actual output of color numbers without color management.
