help with color management printing from photoshop

I have calibrated/profiled my monitor, using an i1Display pro. I am trying to print an image to my canon pixma pro9500.
I'm using Ilford Galerie gold Silk paper

I downloaded a printer icc file from ilford for that print/paper combo and set that as my printer profile in photoshop (with colour handling set to 'Photoshop manages colors"

But there is an error: No color management is not supported. It appears that you are attempting to print without color management

it then goes on to tell me to download a utility to print from.

Why cant I "just" print from photoshop - what is causing the color management issue?

Check the printer driver. Do you have the Airprint version or the Series version? If it is the Airprint version delete it and replace it with the Series version. In the Color Matching section of the driver, make sure you have ColorSync (MAC) or ICM (Windows) selected, not Canon.

What is your working and image colorspace?  That message is normally associated with trying to print an image that has first been converted to the printer profile. If the image is already in printer colorspace then no additional conversion is done when you print it as it is already in that space. When it sees that it warns you against trying to print without color management. You can hit "Cancel" and go ahead and print it anyway but normally you don't work with an image in the printer's colorspace.

Doug that could be it - I am sending the file as an 'edit with photoshop' from Capture One, which has the option of using a profile (so I sent it with the ilford icc)

edit: yes, you were spot on. I sent another image with my working space (adobe rgb) and when selecting the icc in the print settings that error doesnt show up.
so I guess it's safe to just ignore it and print away?

Yep. Go ahead and print it. One thing to keep in mind is that selecting printing intent in Photoshop won't do anything. It will print based on the rendering intent settings selected in Capture One though good practice is to select the same rendering intent in Photoshop in case they change things in the future.  Or just use the Adobe RGB image and have Photoshop use your profile. That at least avoids the warning messages.
