Test from iPad...

Attachments / Choose file / Browse ....

Well, that is how I too ultimately manage to post from iPad and iPhone (“Browse”), as I explained above, by using another application (e.g., LR) capable of saving files to Files, where then the Browse can see them. But that is not using files natively produced by iPad or iPhone, which reside in:

Attachments / Choose file /Photo Library

Why is it so difficult to get a straight answer to a simple question from some members? If the moderator and the other one do not want to help by answering it, but would rather use the opportunity for smart-ass comments, can someone else try to post directly from iPad or iPhone, please? That is, images natively made on either one, stored in the native Camera Roll/Photos apps.

It seems that at least Telecaster confirms the need for a workaround when posting from iPad. Anyone else?
Please is a good start...... ;)

Yes, that's exactly how I attached the silly pot picture...There does not appear to be any workaround required.

Thanks.

I am still puzzled why I get the message I posted in reply #10.

I am aware of that and aware it and JPEGs from an Apple Mobile device upload WITHOUT issue. Maybe you should attempt using .png or accept the site works properly. As multiple members have proven (seriously).  ;)

Likely because your screenshot was made before the change I made in Post 5?

That would explain it, of course. Thanks.

Do you really want help? If so, try reading before posting:

In fact JPEG is the format’s acronym, only abbreviated to .jpg back in the paleo-computer era when Windows only allowed three character suffixes.
AND:
Never had any such issues with a JPEG. And .JPG or .JPEG  (upper or lower case) appears to be just fine for either extension:

What I easily and successfully uploaded was a JPEG. And I've uploaded JPEGs with .JPEG and. JPG extensions, they are both indeed JPEGs. Do you now understand that what I uploaded WAS a JPEG? From an iPhone? And this site accepted and posted it without any issue? Seriously.

I am still puzzled why I get the message I posted in reply #10.
We are in violent agreement about that!  ;)

This is interesting: I went back to the source of the last JunoCam image I had attachment issues with  :D and re-saved it to my iPad's "All Photos" album. This time it's got a .JPG rather than .JPEG extension. I know iOS assigns its own filenames to images when saving 'em, except in the Files app (manages cloud storage) where you can choose your own names and can rename as well. But iOS may also be playing a little fast & loose with extensions. Why the image wouldn't attach, with .JPEG extension, in the first place…dunno. I do know I got an "invalid file" (or somesuch) message from the forum software.

This is a photo-centric site... doesn’t accept .JPEG ?
« Reply #34 on: November 04, 2018, 04:50:13 pm »

Firstly, the issue seems to be the suffix .JPEG not the file type, if Slobodan’s error message is to be trusted. Secondly, could it be a bug in the particular browser version for iPad? The latest successful iPad upload used Chrome rather than Safari.

I used Safari, and I used both .JPEG and .JPG successfully.
One thing seems rather certain, the complaint about this site's software isn't justified. And it's a photo centric site.  ;)

Gentlemen, I firmly believe and have proven that I fixed the issue back in Post#5. I think we are done here. :o

Chris
AFAIK, you did indeed (see item 4 below). It seems that the confusion went this way:
  • Slobodan had a problem, and got a message specifically excluding .jpeg (and .tiff) from the allowable suffixes.
  • You [Chris] fixed the problem, as in post 5.
  • Slobodan later uploaded the screen-shot of the error message that he received *before* your fix — leading to the false impression that the problem still persists.
  • Other tested from iPads *after* the fix and had no problem uploading .JPEG — leading to the false impression that the problem never existed.
So, 37 posts and counting to do a job that only needed five! (About par for the course in internet discussions?)

Apologies for my part in the confusion!

My apologies too re. the last two sentences in my previous post…I missed that Chris had updated the forum software to allow .JPEG.  ::)

Is that really it? Because one can go back and examine a much older post from the OP where he used .JPEG and it previews fine
