On the flower, I like...my other thoughts, probably not appropriate for this forum  ;D

Thanks Chris. I won't enquire further regarding those thoughts - this is a family site  :)

Thought I'd stick a colour one here too

Both images look muted, though it is less objectionable in the color version. Raising the whites might help. Also, there is a green fringing along some of the petals. A defringing brush in LR might help with that.

Thanks for pointing that out - the green fringing; a processing artifact rather than a really dodgy lens. As for the muted tones, I was after a rather muted look, but maybe I've overdone it. I'll have a play with the files & see what I can do.

On my "proper" monitor, the BW version is so muted as to be almost black, so the background is mostly dark blur. On the laptop screen, which isn't calibrated, the background is much brighter so you can actually see what it is, and I think that look is much more successful and I like it very much. So either our monitors aren't set up the same or I agree that you've overdone it.

I prefer the color version by far. For the B&W image, I find that the position of the flower is not too pleasant. The muted look can certainly be improved, though.

I personally prefer the colour.
Might just be me, but I keep thinking the B&W composition needs more space on the RH side & less on the left to look more balanced.

The original b&w is lovely. The only nit is, the oof leaf slanting down and to the right distracts.
