Title: Tree Stand

I'm not sure if it works or not. It doesn't come across as lonely as I was hoping for. Any suggestions?

The first thing I'd do is to lose what little colour it has, which I think would help a bit.

I like the color. I got curious and blew the picture up and saw color in the structure and then other subtle hues. Maybe crop a third or fourth from the bottom and a bit on the right-hand side?

IMHO a landscape format and a wider field of view would have worked better for what you're aiming.
With the portrait format the shot is too dynamic and the narrow field of view make the stand too "dominant" on other elements.
This, I think, work against the feeling of unimportance and stillness associated with loneness.
