Title: Which lense?
Post by: Piece on January 28, 2006, 10:56:09 pm
Either the Canon 80-200mm f/2.8L lightly used for $300 and change or the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM new for $2000.  Mostly photojournalist style work using available light only a lot.  I'll probably shooting stopped down to f/4 when I can.

Also, the 17-40mm f/4L lightly used for $300 and change or the 16-35mm f/2.8L for $1400 new.  Same situation here, except I'd probably keep the 17-40mm at f/4 instead of stopping down anymore.

At those prices, I'd buy the 80-200mm f/2.8 L and the 17-40mm f/4 L. The going used prices on Ebay is ~$600+ for each. If you change your mind, you could always resell them and make a few hundred bucks.

These prices sound too tempting. Carefully check for all possible flaws or if they are stolen.

It's from a pro that used it personally to shoot his family with...it's not stolen and it's fine.  It works properly.  My main concern was the slowed focusing on the  80-200 but that's all they had in the 90s at that range so I guess I can do with it.

Then run and buy them.
